Dr. Kate Mihevc Edwards PT, DPT, OCS

Dr. Kate Mihevc Edwards, PT, DPT, OCS is an accomplished clinician, author, educator, speaker, and entrepreneur whose career has been shaped by a lifelong connection to endurance sport and a deep commitment to treating the whole athlete.

Running is where it all began. Kate ran her first half marathon in 2003 with little guidance and plenty of mistakes, an experience that ended in injury and physical therapy, but ultimately sparked her interest in understanding how runners train, get injured, and recover. She went on to qualify for and run the Boston Marathon three times, complete 13 marathons, and compete in multiple sprint triathlons. She earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 2009 and completed an orthopedic residency at Achieve Orthopedic Rehab Institute in Chicago, becoming one of the early physical therapists in the U.S. to pursue residency training.

Kate is a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist and a recognized leader in running medicine. She has taught and mentored physical therapists, residents, and students locally and nationally, serves as adjunct faculty at Emory University School of Medicine. Kate has contributed to some research and a lot of education on running biomechanics, injury prevention, and endurance athletes. She frequently lectures at conferences, running camps, and professional courses across the U.S. and Canada, and is a sought-after speaker on topics ranging from running injuries and female athlete health to athletic identity.

In 2015, Kate founded Precision Performance & Physical Therapy in Atlanta, GA, with a clear vision: to create a runner-focused clinic where athletes receive individualized, evidence-informed care without the constraints of insurance-driven models, and where clinicians can thrive in a collaborative, healthy work environment. Precision has since become a trusted resource for runners of all levels and is deeply integrated into the Atlanta running community, including work with the Atlanta Track Club Elite multidisciplinary medical and performance team.

n 2016, Kate was diagnosed with arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM), a rare genetic heart disease that dramatically altered her relationship with sport. While she no longer trains or competes as she once did, she is now able to run short distances one to two times per week at an easy pace—something she deeply values after a long period of uncertainty. This lived experience has shaped her professional focus on athletic identity, loss, adaptation, and resilience.

Kate is the author of Racing Heart: A Runner’s Journey of Love, Loss, and Perseverance and Go Ahead, Stop and Pee: Running During Pregnancy and Postpartum, she is the co-host of the Interdisciplinary Case Miles Podcast and the More Than Miles podcast. She is also the founder of Fast Bananas and RUNsource, a multidisciplinary running app featuring expert guidance from clinicians, coaches, and specialists across running medicine, nutrition, psychology, and performance.

Today, Kate’s work centers on helping athletes—and the clinicians who care for them—better understand the intersection of body, mind, identity, and performance. Whether through clinical care, education, research, or speaking, her mission remains the same: to support athletes in navigating injury, change, and growth with clarity, compassion, and confidence.
