Dr. Elizabeth Karr PT, DPT, OCS
Elizabeth’s love for movement began at an early age, dabbling in ballet, soccer, volleyball, cheer, and track throughout her youth. In high school she dedicated her focus to dance, where she learned discipline and the importance of combining mobility, strength, and power - lessons that she has carried through her life and practice as a physical therapist. In college, Elizabeth turned to running as a way to stay active and, poorly tried to train for a half marathon, eventually resulting in a frustrating achilles injury. While returning to running from this injury at the start of PT school, she truly fell in love with the sport. She had found an outlet for her stress, a supportive community of athletes, and a fun way to challenge herself. With support from her PT school running buddy, she found herself logging mileage that she never thought she could, and finally was able to meet that goal of running a half-marathon. Years after saying that she would never cross the line into the marathon distance, Elizabeth completed her first marathon in 2025.
Elizabeth’s desire to help people can be traced back to her youth, tagging along to her little brother’s pediatric therapy appointments for many years after he suffered a brain hemorrhage at birth. She saw first hand the relationships built between therapists and patients, and the life changing impact made on her brother by these wonderful clinicians. In high school when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, Elizabeth had a light bulb moment and knew that she wanted to pursue a career in physical therapy to be able to improve lives through movement. She graduated from the University in Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, and then went on to complete her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Emory University.
Elizabeth is a board certified orthopedic specialist. She has experience treating neuromusculoskeletal conditions throughout the lifespan and has a passion for helping people with active lifestyles return to the activities they love. She values the personal connection between client and therapist, and believes that building a relationship to understand her clients’ goals, strengths, and needs is the foundation of successful rehabilitation. She is trained in dry needling and advanced manual techniques which she uses as part of her holistic approach to treatment - including appropriate exercise prescription and education on stress and load management- to optimize positive patient outcomes. Elizabeth also has experience as a Well-Being coach, using motivational interviewing and goal-setting to help graduate students build healthy lifestyle habits. She has lead strength training classes for adolescent female athletes, provided education to high school track and cross country teams individually and at Wingfoot running camp, and frequently leads education sessions for the Atlanta Track Club's In Training groups. Her clinical interests include supporting adolescent and female athletes, mental health, and injury prevention.
Outside of the clinic, Elizabeth embraces her love for movement by running, walking, strength training, and doing yoga. She takes any opportunity to spend time outside and enjoy the warm Georgia weather. A proud University of Michigan alumn, Elizabeth can be found cheering on various Wolverine sports teams - Go Blue!
